PDMC, PD&M, Product Design Suite — same product, four names
This product has accumulated more names than any other in Autodesk’s range, and quotes rarely use the one you searched for.

What happened to Product Design Suite
Autodesk retired the Suite branding and moved to Collections. The change was not cosmetic — Suites came in Standard, Premium and Ultimate tiers, while the Collection is a single tier containing everything.
If you’re renewing from an old Product Design Suite Ultimate seat, the Collection is the direct successor. If you were on Standard or Premium, you gain applications you didn’t previously have.

The tipping point sits at two products. Once you need Inventor and one other application, the Collection generally costs less than buying both — and Vault, Nastran, Navisworks and the rest arrive at no additional cost.
The applications engineers forget they’re getting
Vault Basic is the most commonly overlooked. Design offices running shared network folders and manual file naming often buy a PDM system separately without realizing Vault is already in their subscription.
Inventor Nastran is the second. Teams exporting to a separate FEA package frequently have deeper analysis available inside the Collection they already pay for.

Vault Basic — the component worth understanding
Vault is engineering data management: check-in and check-out, version history, and where-used tracking across assemblies.
The practical value shows the first time an engineer changes a part used in twelve assemblies. Vault knows where it’s used and what breaks. A network folder does not.
Vault Basic is the entry tier — sufficient for most small and mid-size design offices. Larger deployments needing workflow and revision control move to Professional, which is a separate purchase.
Versions and previous releases
An active subscription includes access to previous version years through your Autodesk account, per application.
That matters in manufacturing, where a customer or supplier may specify the exact release models must be delivered in, and where a validated process can be tied to a particular version.

Platform reality
This is effectively a Windows-focused collection. AutoCAD and Fusion have macOS support, but Inventor Professional, Vault, Navisworks Manage, 3ds Max, Factory Design Utilities, and Inventor Nastran are Windows-only.
A Mac-based engineering office can use some applications from the Collection, but Windows hardware is required for the complete PDMC workflow.
